Patient 1. Female, 31 years old. Was diagnosed as retinitis pigmentosa 10 years ago.
Pretreatment characteristic:
Night vision: can't see at night; can't walk alone, needs assistance.
Daytime vision: vision is restricted, needs assistance sometimes when walking; needs to ask for help when changing lanes during driving; blurry vision, sometimes double vision; eye fatigue.
Colour vision: blue and black blind.
Post-treatment follow-up:
Patient 1 received WVIP treatment since July 29,1999. She received acupuncture on a biweekly basis, drank Guangming herbal decoction daily and took antioxidants every day. On Sept. 28, she reported seeing better at night for the first time.
On Oct. 26, she reported that she could walk stairs freely at night, and she could even drive at night. On Nov. 19, she had a Humphrey visual field test, which showed positive improvement (see attached below). On Jan 22, 2000, she reported that she clearly sees lines on the road at night, and needs no assistance when walking during the daytime. On Feb. 19, 2000, she could see better: she didn't need to ask for passengers help when turning or changing lanes during day driving. On March 1, 2000, she no longer needed glasses for daily life such as walking, shopping and driving. She still needs glasses for watching TV. Patient 1 update.
Dec 3, 2002. Patient had received acupuncture treatment and herbal medicine for the past 2 years. Since May, 2002 her vision had been very good. She didn’t feel she had RP anymore.
Night Vision: She sees clear at night, Drives freely at night, can change lines at night without difficulty. She even drove at night in the rain. She can park in underground parking easily.
She can see almost everything in theater, going in and coming out of theater all by herself.
Dark Adaptation: She see no more glares when facing sunlight or headlights of car. It take 1—2 minutes to adapt from sunlight into darkroom.
Visual field: She still experience some minor restrictions in her visual field, but not enough to affect her daily life any more.
On Dec2, 2002 She went to her ophthalmologist Dr.Anthony Wong. Upon exam Dr.Wong told her: Her visual field is bigger, the pigments on her retina 3 years ago completely disappeared. Her RP is “ stable/in remission”
Patient 2. Female, 33 years old, was diagnosed as retinitis pigmentosa 21 years ago. She is the elder sister of patient 1. She visited our clinic after her sister's visual field test indicated positive improvement.
Pretreatment characteristic:
Night vision: can't see at night; can't see in dim light of movie theater.
Day vision: visual field is restricted; can't walk without assistance; has to walk slowly watching the floor; has difficulties with stairs, especially going down stairs; when walking on the street has difficulty with sidewalks, frequent knocking with others, tables or chairs on the street - these accidents happened on a daily basis. She can't drive during the day time, sees darkness around eyes. She feels itch and fatigue in both of her eyes. There is redness in her eyes.
Cataracts: right eye has cataracts.
Post-treatment follow-up:
She received WVIP treatment since Nov. 23,1999. She received acupuncture twice a day for 9 days. She drank Guangming herbal decoction on a daily basis and also took antioxidants daily. Two weeks after initial treatment, she had a Humphrey visual field test that indicated significant improvement (see attached below). On March 15, 2000, she received another 10 days acupuncture treatments. She reported the following improvements:
Night vision: she could go to the cinema by herself now and could see things clearly despite the dim light of the cinema. Walk with more confidence at night, but she still needs a little help.
Daytime vision: walk by herself now, no need for other people's help anymore. About 20% less accidents such as crashing with people, tables and chairs. Sees less darkness around eyes. Easier to go down stairs. No more itching, fatigue and redness in her eyes.

Patient 3. female. 54 years old. high school teacher from Calgary, Canada.
She was diagnosed as RP 14 years ago after her brother diagnosed as RP. At beginning she only had night blindness. As time passed by, she started to aware restriction in her visual field, glares at sunlight, colors blindness. Her daily life and work was impaired.
5 years ago her sister copied a article from library about acupuncture treatment of RP. She then started to see an acupuncturist in Calgary for 3 years .However her vision continued to decline over this period of time.
2 years ago ( 2001 ) she saw Dr.Yu’s website , and started to come to Vancouver for Dr.Yu’s WVIP treatment since April 16, 2001. She noticed significant improvement in her vision after initial 10 days of treatments. Following are the details.
Pretreatment Characteristic:
Night Vision : Unable to see anything in dark. Need assistance from others if walk in the
dark. Often knock down cups on table in restaurant.
Day Vision : Difficulties when go downstairs. Knock on other pedestrians when walk fast
on street. It was getting worse. She had trouble to see during driving when
turning left or changing lines. Hard to find things on the floor.Needs reading

Dark Adaptation : Hard to see her students’ face when sunlight was strong.Hard to find ball when Golfing under sunlight. Take 10 minutes to adjust from sunlight to darkroom. Lots glares when facing sunlight.
Colors Vision: Had trouble to see dark green, dark blue, black, navy, purple and brown
colors. See green lights, not red and yellow lights in traffic lights.
Post treatment Follow up:
On April 20 ( 4 days after tx) she read newspaper without glasses for the 1st time. On April 27, She returned home from Vancouver and found her vision improved about 4 years backward. For example, in swimming pool’s change room she need to walk slow and watch her step before, now she could walk normal speed and saw more things with better contrast. When she went to darkroom from sunlight, she could adjust almost immediately. She could see clear face of her students even sunlight was strong outside .She saw some kind of grey-white ‘belt’ in her peripheral vision before, now the ‘belt’ disappeared. She need to watch the floor when she walked before, now she could walk with eyes looking straight.
On June 29,2001, She came back from Calgary for a 3-day treatment. She did a Humphrey visual field test which indicated improvement in her peripheral vision. Her Doctor said: it is better than 4 years ago. She also had no eye fatigue and redness in eyes
anymore. On July 1, She reported: When she worked on computer before, she need to move the cursor to the left side of screen, so she could see it. Now she didn’t need to do that anymore. Before she when she need to look at a person at dinning table, she need to turn her neck to look toward him or her. But now she could see them without turning her neck.
On August 12, 2001, She came back from a trip to Europe. She found her vision declined while travel in Italy: walked slow on stone paved road. After returned to home, her vision continued to decline: very restricted in peripheral vision, can’t see anything at night, lots glares when facing the sunlight. She started WVIP tx on Aug 12. After 8 days treatments, she started to see better again :
Night Vision : She was able to see dishes, cups on the table under dim light of
restaurant.
Visual Field : When she walked, she didn’t need to look at ground as much as before. When dinning, she couldn’t see cups and dishes on the table
and often knock down other’s cups before. Now she could see the
cups , dishes and even her hands on her lap.
Glares at Sun: gone again.
On November 23 to 30, 2001, she came back for WVIP treatment. Her vision had been stale for past 2 month without declining.
On January 18,2002, she did Humphrey visual field test, which indicated significant improvement in her peripheral vision.
She continued to received WVIP treatment in February, April, July and October of 2002.
After her treatment in October, she reported: she could see almost everything during day and night. Only one problem was she still couldn’t drive well at dusk. Except that, she didn’t feel she has RP anymore.

He noticed night vision impairment since 13 years old .He was diagnosed as RP in January, 2000. He visited Dr.Yu on June 2, 2001. Prior to that he has received acupuncture treatment at his hometown without improvement. His acupuncturist called Dr.Yu and referred him to see Dr.Yu.
Pretreatment Characteristic:
Night Vision: can’t see anything at night without street light or moon light. see stars
and moon. Was able to walk and run at night with light. Was able to
drive at night with difficulties at turns and during the rain.
Day Vision : visual field was severely restricted. Was able to walk by himself with
lots accidents .no problem when go up and down stairs. run and drive
during the day .
Colors Vision: hard to see purple, blue, dark blue and black color. Was diagnosed as
colors blind.
Central Vision: Left eye 20/40. Right eye 20/70.
Dark Adaptation: see lots glares when facing Sunlight. need sunglasses under the
Sun. take one minute to adjust from sunlight to dark room.
Post treatment follow up:
After WVIP treatment from June 2 to 11, 2001, he had following progress in his vision:
Night Vision: at 10th day of his tx, he was able to see things and people at night
without light for the 1st time .He saw things so clear, he thought it
was under moonlight. In fact that was a cloudy day.
Day Vision: After tx in Vancouver, He returned home and had eye exam. His visual
acuity was improved significantly. Left eye 20/30, Right eye 20/30.
On August 20 to 29, 2001, he had his second WVIP treatment. His visual field was significantly improved after tx. (See attached below).

light. Can’t walk around home at dusk.
Dark Adaptation : see glares when facing Sunlight. need sunglasses on sunny days
and even cloudy days. Otherwise she would feel pain in eyes and
headache. Take 1 to 2 minutes to adjust from sunlight to dark
room.
Colors Vision and Complications: can’t tell navy from black color. start to have
cataract in both eyes at the time of her initial
visit.
Post treatment Follow-ups :
After her 1 st WVIP treatment from June 20 to 29, 2002 in Vancouver, she had very positive improvement in her vision.
Visual acuity: on 5 th day of tx, she saw things more sharp and clear. She was able
to read ingredients on a ‘lemonade’ bottle for the first time. She saw a
lamp in her hotel room without glasses, she couldn’t do this before.
On 7 th day of tx, she saw a clear glass on the table in a restaurant at
dusk.
Night Vision : She saw more things at night than before, such as people on bike,
curve of street, cars trees. She could see them even in raining nights.
At night she was able to find and turn on the switch at home for the
first time. At dusk she was able to walk around rooms without
turning on lights for the first time.
Visual Field : On 9 th day of tx, she saw lights in her peripheral vision. She felt
seeing better on sides. She was able to play indoor Golf for the first
time in 10 years. It was confirmed later in her Goldman visual field
test.
Dark Adaptation: take only 30 seconds to adapt from sunlight to dark room. Still
need sunglasses in sunny days, but not need sunglasses in cloudy
day or raining day anymore. glares when facing Sun reduced.
Disappearance of IBS: She had irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS ) for 2 years prior to
seeing Dr.Yu. She always had abdominal pain, ramps,
diarrhea bleeding in stool. Her doctor had proposed to her to
have a surgery on the bowel. 5 days after her initial WVIP tx,
she started to feel better in her bowel movement. Since then
she have never had any bleeding, pain, and diarrhea. No more
need for a surgery. She was very happy about it.
On Oct 1, 2002 she came back for 2nd WVIP program. She reported that after last tx, her vision improved for 3 weeks, then it started to decline till Oct,2002. The declines most demonstrated in following areas:
knock on desk or people more often at work.
eye became more itchy, tired, burning, watery and pain again.
need to turn on lights again when walk around room at dusk.

She took 2nd course of WVIP tx from Oct1 to 10, 2002. After tx she had following improvement in her vision:
Visual Field: at 4 th day of tx, she saw the difference between bush and street on her
left side for the 1st time.she also was able to see her left feet while
walking for the 1 st time.
At 8 th day, she started to see her Jacket of right arm while walking for
the 1 st time.
At 10 th day, she was able to see her own shadow on her right side for
the 1 st time.
On Nov 28,2002, she did a Goldman visual field test which confirmed
her progress in peripheral vision.
Night Vision: At 3 rd day she was able to see a light switch in her hotel room under
dim light. At 10 th day she was able to walk on street all by herself at
night without accidents, seeing clearly about road, sidewalks, edge of
road
Dark Adaptation : At 8 th day of tx,she found herself being able to go into
‘safeway’—a lighted store from darkness at night and come out to
darkness from the lighted store without waiting for adjustment.
At 8 th day she was able to walk under sunlight without
sunglasses and saw no glares.
IBS: Her stomach was still good. No symptoms of IBS at all.

Pretreatment Characteristic:
Day Vision: be able to walk, run without assistance. No trouble when go up and
down stairs. Had trouble in picking up things from floor. When driving,
no problem with changing lines, road signs, parking and traffic lights.
Night Vision: When drove at night, he couldn’t see well street signs, white lines on
road, entrance and exit of freeways. Saw glares from car headlights of
opposite cars. Hard to park in underground parking.
When walked or ran at night , he couldn’t see well and often ran into
fences and tables, etc. Once he even broken his left feet because of
accidents at night. He couldn’t tell the difference between the real tree and the shadow of tree. He could see stars and moon.
Dark Adaptation: Took 4 to 5 minutes to adjust from sunlight to dark room. Took 2
to 3 minutes to adjust from darkroom to sunlight. Saw glares when
facing Sun, but no need for sunglasses yet.
Colors Vision and Complications: none.
Post treatment Follow up:
After his initial WVIP treatment from June 13 to 22, 2002.He saw following improvement in his vision:
Night Vision: On 5 th day of treatment, he went to see a football game at night, he saw
stairs more clear than before. When he drove at that night, he saw the
road more clear, felt more comfortable with turns and changing
lines. Glares from headlights of opposite cars also reduced.
On 6 th day, he went to see a movie. He was able to go out of cinema,
bought some popcorn and came back to movie without accident. He was
able to run at night without accident, even in dark street. He was able to
tell the difference between a real tree and the shadow of tree for the 1st
time.
After returned home from Vancouver, he found that it was easier to park
at underground parking lot than before, driving at night was easier as
well.
Dark Adaptation: On 7 th day, he was able to walk from sunlight to dark room without
waiting for adjustment.
Day Vision: He saw more clear with her central vision. He couldn’t see his back yard
very clear before, now he could see all the way back to his yard very clear.
He couldn’t see road very clear after raining due to reflection before,now
he could see it very clear.
His improvement in vision had lasted for one month, then his vision started to decline slowly, especially in night vision. But his vision was still better than the start. On Aug 31,2002 , he came back to Vancouver for second course of WVIP treatment. His vision improved significantly after 7 days of treatment.
Night Vision: No more trouble to drive at night. Even went to snowboarding at nights.
Glares when facing car headlights at night were almost gone.Was able to
walk and run at night without accidents. Was able to see the difference
between the shadow of tree and the real tree. Was able to see the edge of
sidewalks, trees and grass at night .
Visual Field: He felt visual field was bigger, especially in right eye. It was confirmed
later by Goldman Visual Field Test ( see attached below). Driving
became easier. He didn’t have to turn his neck when changing lines
anymore. At movie, he was able to see the whole screen for the first time.
Everything in the cinema was less darker than before. Picking up things
from floor became easier.
Dark Adaptation : Glares at Sun reduced .He could adjust immediately from sunlight to
dark room. There was no delay ant more.
Goldman Visual Field Test:
* Pretreatment test ( Apr 15, 2002) Left eye/ Right eye.
* After treatment test ( Oct 18, 2002 ) Left eye/ Right eye.
Patient 7. male, 45 years old. Computer engineer from Brazil. He knew about WVIP treatment through internet. He came to visit Dr.Yu on Feb 11, 2002.
He was diagnosed as RP in Boston, U.S.A, 1972. Over the years he had received treatments such as surgery, Ozone, electrical stimulation, medication, nutritional supplements prior to see Dr.Yu. His vision had progressively getting worse and worse over this period of time. His right eye got blind after a cataract surgery. His left eye still had limited vision.
Pretreatment Characteristics:
Night Vision: Couldn’t see , walk, drive at night, even with moon light. Couldn’t see
well under dim lights such as restaurant or cinema.
Day Vision : Visual acuity in left eye was 20/100. Right eye was blind, not sensitive
to light even. Was able to walk by himself without assistance. Could run and ride bicycle . If in a shopping mall, he often felt dizzy and knock on other people .Had trouble to go downstairs. Was able to read computer
screen. Couldn’t read small prints. Couldn’t see people’s hands during handshaking for most of time. Didn’t have good judgment about the real distance of an object such as cups, bottles. Therefore he often miss
the object when trying to reach it.
Colors Vision: Couldn’t see brown, blue, green, and pink color.
Dark Adaptation: He need sunglasses all the time when under the Sun, Took less than
one minute to adjust from sunlight to dark room.
Complications: Had cataract bin left eye since 1991.
Post treatment Follow up:
After WVIP treatment from Feb 11 to 20, 2002, He noticed very positive improvements:
Day Vision: On 3 rd day of treatment, His eye felt more comfortable to see things,
using less effort, felt less fatigue. Was able to read menu better under
dim lights in a restaurant. He always saw a blurry spot in his visual field
before. After 4 th day , he found the blurry spot disappeared. On 9th day
he started see some lights in right eye ( the blind eye ! ) for the first time.
On 10 th day , he was able to read numbers and letters on his credit card
( as the contrast is very little) for the first time. He felt more confident
when walking . He was able to shake hands without missing for most of time.
Night Vision : On 3 rd day , he felt more secure to walk at night. On 7 th day, he went out at night, he could see almost everything such as people, trees, and bikes, etc.
He came back for 2 nd round of WVIP treatment from July 14 to 23, 2002. The following improvement was observed:
Night Vision: Vision was sharper under dim lights in restaurant or hotel. His wife
used to lead him to the table in restaurant before, Now he could lead
his wife to the table without trips or accidents. He was able to walk by
himself at night for the first time.
Day Vision : Farsightedness became clearer. He felt visual field was bigger. Was
able to reach a cup or bottle without problem. Read computer screen more clear.
Dark Adaptation: Glares when facing Sun was gone.
He came back for 3 rd round of WVIP treatment on Nov 2 to 13, 2002. He found following improvement after treatment.
Night Vision: Every time he came to Vancouver for treatment, he always lived in the
same hotel---- Holiday Inn . This time he was able to see everything
more clear, even to see stairs under dim lights. He went to some
restaurant and found it is brighter than before too.
Day Vision: He always saw a crescent shaped light in his visual field under sunlight
before. After this treatment, the crescent shaped light completely disappeared.
Patient 8. male, 46 years old. businessman from Singapore. He knew Dr.Yu through internet.
He had RP all his life. He didn’t have normal vision since childhood. In his 20s, he noticed more signs of night blindness. He had cataracts in both eyes, which was removed surgically later. Prior to Dr.Yu, he was on Vitamin A and Novvasc, purpuralin .He noticed slight improvement in his central vision.
Pretreatment Characteristics:
Night Vision: Very poor. He couldn’t walk by himself at night or in restaurant. Need
assistance if he wanted to go to kitchen to fetch some water at night.
Couldn’t drive at night. he could see moon, and see 1 to 2 big stars with
assistance.
Day Vision : Was able to walk by himself, but had lots accidents. Hard to go downstairs. Couldn’t drive. When reading a book, letters looked
distorted. Couldn’t read small prints like white pages. Eyes felt tired
easily. He often missed other people’s hands in handshaking for more
than 50% of time. Couldn’t pick up things from floor by himself.
Couldn’t read computer screen.
Colors Vision: Color is not sharp. Couldn’t see light green and light yellow.
Dark Adaptation : Saw lots glares when facing sunlight. Need sunglasses under
sunlight. Took less than one minutes to adjust from sunlight to
dark room.
Other: Saw double vision when tired , or got flu or cold.
Post treatment Follow up:
He came to receive WVIP treatment on Feb11 to 21, 2002. His vision improved 2 to 5 years backward after tx. Following are the detail:
Night Vision: On 3 rd day of treatment, he walked better under dim light in a coffee
shop, was able serve himself with drinks, etc.
Day Vision : On 3 rd day of tx, he went to a church, he didn’t miss any handshaking
from people at church. On 6 th day, he noticed he was able to see wider
visual field while sitting th the lobby of hotel. After returned to
Singapore, he was able to walk with more confidence and less accidents.
He was able to pick up things from floor by himself for the first time.His central vision felt more sharp. His visual field improvement was
confirmed by Humphrey Test ( see attached ).
Colors Vision: On 3 rd day, he was able to see light yellow color on news paper for
the 1 st time. On 5 th day he saw colors more sharp, “ black is more
black, red is more red “
Dark Adaptation: Glares when facing sunlight reduced on 6 th day of tx. He didn’t
even need sunglasses in a sunny day. Dark adaptation was quicker.
He could adjust almost immediately from sunlight to hotel lobby
(a dimmed environment ).

Patient 9. female, 29 years old. University student from Mexico. She knew about WVIP treatment through internet.
She had night blindness since childhood. She started to be aware of visual field restriction 3 years ago. She was diagnosed as RP in March, 2002. She came to Vancouver for WVIP treatment on May1, 2002.
Pretreatment Characteristics:
Day Vision: was able to walk by herself, but always walk slow, sometimes knock on
tables, doors or children. Had difficulties when went downstairs. She
couldn’t run. She drove but not well. Often miss in handshaking. Had
trouble to pick up things from floor. She could read books with glasses,
but need to keep the book very close distance.
Night Vision : was very difficult to walk at night, need to feel the road with her feet. Couldn’t drive at night. Couldn’t run at night. Could see moon and 1 or 2 big stars. Couldn’t see steps in cinema.
Colors Vision: good.
Dark Adaptation : Took 15 minutes to adjust when went from sunlight to dark room.
Saw glares when facing sun or car headlights at night. Couldn’t see
things with sun glasses.
Other Symptoms: She felt pressure and pain around eyes all the time. Saw lots flash
lights when closed her eyes. Had no glaucoma or cataract.
Post treatment Follow up:
After WVIP treatment on May 1 to 9, 2002, she saw following improvement in her vision:
Day Vision: her central vision became sharper. She was able to read books better, and
at longer distance on 7 th day of tx. Was able to run during day time for
the first time.
Night Vision : saw more stars, both big and small ones. Was able to see things with
sunglasses on for the 1 st time.
Other: Flash lights( when eyes closed ) were gone.
She came back to Vancouver for 2 nd WVIP tx in August and November, 2002. She saw following improvement after tx:
Day Vision : no more troubles to go downstairs. Was able to run. Could drive in the
city but not yet on free way. Her doctor said: her central vision was
better in eye exam.
Night Vision : walked better, still with difficulties. Saw more stars . Started to drive at night for the first time.
Dark Adaptation: took one minute to adjust from sunlight to dark room.
Other: no more eye pain.
In February, 2003, She came back for 3 rd WVIP tx. She saw significant improvement in her night vision after tx: She was able to walk at night without accidents. She saw everything on the street very clear at night.

Patient 10, male, 32 years old. Computer consultant from Toronto, Canada. He knew Dr.Yu through internet.
He was aware of night vision problem and tunnel vision since 1995. Was diagnosed as RP in 1997. Tried Vitamin A therapy without observed vision improvement . He came to see Dr.Yu on May 4th, 2002.
Pre treatment Characteristics:
Day Vision: walked by himself with little accidents. Could run and drive during the
day. had troubles to go downstairs. Hard to pick up things from floor.
Often knocked off cups on table. had difficulties to watch action movies.
Night Vision: couldn’t see anything in dark. Hard to walk under dim lights in
restaurant. Was able to walk under street light at night. Was able to
drive at night. Very difficult to drive in the rain.
Colors Vision: Unable to see colors such as black, blue, light pink, light yellow, and
light violet. Often had one sock in black, and another in blue. Couldn’t see yellow high lighters.
Dark Adaptation: Saw lots glares under sunshine. Need sun glasses when it is sunny,
otherwise he would feel pain around eyes. Saw glares when facing
car headlights at night. It took one minute to adjust from sunlight to
dark room.
Post treatment Follow up:
After WVIP treatment from May 4 to 12, 2002, He noticed following improvements:
Visual field: At 7 th day of tx, he felt his visual field was bigger. Saw more things on both sides, felt more comfortable to look at things without turning his
neck back and forth.
Night Vision: At 7 th day of tx, he saw better image under dim light. Walking became
easier in restaurant. Driving at night became easier too.
Dark Adaptation: At 8 th day, he saw less glares at night when facing car headlights,
less glares when facing sunlight. It took only 15 to 20 seconds to
adjust from sunlight to dark room.
ERG: In his eye exam after wvip tx on July 4, 2002, His ERG indicated significant
improvement. His doctor wrote in exam report: “ since the last ERG recorded
04/02, some response have increased more than expected with inter visit
variations, but remain very attenuated. The patient was able to comply with
testing more easily today than at his last ERG.

Patient 11. female, 31 years old. Customer service rep from Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.
She had RP for 16 years. Her vision was getting worse progressively, especially in past 2 years. She tried Vitamin A therapy for last 4 years, her vision continued to get worse during the period of time. She found Dr.Yu through internet, and came to Vancouver for WVIP treatment on December 6, 2002 for the first time.
Pretreatment Characteristics:
Day Vision: Was able to walk by her self, but often knock on people, tables. Her legs
and body was bruised all the time. Had trouble to recognize the 1st step when go downstairs. Was able to drive during the day, had troubles in
changing lines, and right or left turns. Couldn’t read road signs well.
Took lots time in parking. Hard to pick up things from floor. Vision was
blurry when watch computer screen or read small prints.She worked in a retail store, sometimes when a customer passed credit card to her, she couldn’t see it right away. She often missed in a handshaking with others. She often knocked things over on the dinner table. It was very hard for her to judge the distance when she tried to reach to a dish or cup. Couldn’t see an object if it was flying very fast, such as a flying basketball.
Night Vision : She couldn’t see ant thing at night except lights, everywhere else was
pure black. Couldn’t see the difference between the trees and sky when
camping outside. Saw moon, saw 1 to 2 big stars at night. Couldn’t walk by herself at night. Couldn’t walk by herself in room under candle light. At dusk she couldn’t walk by herself, because she couldn’t see enough contrast. She couldn’t drive at night for past 3 years. In restaurant, she need assistance to walk under dim light. It was hard for her to find forks and spoons on the table. In movie theater, She need assistance to walk under dim light. Had to sit way back to see the whole screen.
Colors Vision: good.
Dark Adaptation : Lots glares when facing Sun. Took 2 to 3 minutes to adjust from
sunlight to dark room. Need sunglasses all the time if under
sunlight .Otherwise she will feel pain around eyes.
Visual Acuity: 20/30 in both eyes.
Complications: She had cataract in both eyes for 2 years. Her right retina had some
detachment. She saw double vision sometimes. Eye pressure was normal.
Post Treatment Follow up:
After 10 days WVIP treatment, she saw following improvement in her vision:
Night Vision: After 1 st day of treatment, she was able to see 12 stars at night. This
was never happened in her life. At 3rd day, she walked by herself under dim light in restaurant for the 1st time .She thought it was a ‘ bright’ restaurant. Her husband said:"normally at this light she couldn’t see and walk by herself at all. At 4th day, it was raining at night. She was able to see road itself, ground around her cottage without street light.
At 5 th day, it was still raining at night. She was able to see the
difference between mountain, cloud, and ground at 10:00 PM. She
would only see pure black before under similar condition.
At 6 th day, she went to a movie. She was able to walk by herself out
of cinema for the first time (under dim light ). During the movie she
was able to see the outline of people’s head for the 1 st time. At 7th day,She saw more things at night when her husband drove. Before she could only see as far as the headlights reached. Now she could see way beyond the headlights such as road signs, trees, grass, road itself. She even told her husband where she should drive to, or if he missed a turn or not. She was able to tell the difference among mountain, cloud, and sky. But she still couldn’t tell the difference between the trees on the mountain and mountain itself.
At 8 th day , It’s raining at night, she saw very clear on the road when
her husband was driving.
After WVIP tx in Vancouver, She returned home in Louisville. She continued to see improvement in her night vision. She saw more contrast at dusk, was able to walk under candle light for the 1st time. She also started to drive at night, even once drove in the rain at night.
Visual Field: At 3rd day of tx, she walked on Robson St ( a shopping street in
downtown Vancouver) all day, never tripped, never knocked on anybody. She walked up and down stairs, didn’t look down to floor as much as before.
After she returned home, people at work and herself noticed that she
didn’t trip or clash on people as before. She could go downstairs
without stopping and searching at the start. When drove, she was able
to see road signs better and to park easier. She could pick up things
from floor much easier than before. She did better in handshaking, was
able to see the hands. Was able to notice credit card from customer
more quickly at work.
Dark Adaptation: She could adjust almost immediately from sunlight into darkroom.
Still saw glares under sunlight. No more headache if not wearing
Sunglasses under the Sun.
Complications: No more double vision.
On March 13, 2003, She came back for second course of WVIP tx. Her vision improvement had bee kept for 2 months after last WVIP tx. Then it started to get some decline in the mid of February, 2003. Most decline was in peripheral vision, some in night vision. After her second WVIP tx for 10 days, she recovered all the vision decline and was doing well in both day and night vision. Following are the details:
Night Vision: At 2nd day of treatment, she went to a restaurant at night, saw well
under dim light. At 6 th day she went to movie at night, was able to see
everything in the cinema under dim light. She even went downstairs at
night, found no trouble. On the 9th day , she went out in the rain at
night and saw everything clear.
Visual field: On the 4th day, she started to notice that her peripheral vision got
bigger, went up and down the stairs with no problem. On the 7th day, when her mother was driving, she could see her mother with peripheral vision from passenger seat, before she couldn’t do that.
Dark Adaptation: Before she came back from second WVIP tx, her dark adaptation
Time got longer. After 2 days treatment this time, her dark adaptation
got right back. She didn’t need to wait from sunlight to darkroom.
